Cycles of Redemption - Week 2

What happens when a people forget where they came from and who brought them through? In Judges chapter 6, we find Israel in a desperate condition, hiding in caves and mountains, stripped of their crops and livestock by the Midianites. The striking thing is that this suffering did not come out of nowhere. It came after a generation rose up that had no memory of what God had done for their ancestors. That single verse from Judges 2 lands like a thunderclap: another generation arose that did not know the Lord. This sermon calls us to honest self-examination. Are we living in the blessings of a faith we have stopped tending? The cyclical pattern of Judges—faithfulness giving way to forgetfulness, forgetfulness inviting oppression, oppression driving a cry back to God—is not just ancient history. It is a mirror held up to our own spiritual lives. The central lesson is both a warning and an invitation: do not forget to remember. God's faithfulness across generations is not just a fact to acknowledge on special occasions. It is the anchor that keeps us steady when the storms rise and the enemies press in.
